Key Details
Driver Refinement: The S150 Series Crown was the first generation to abandoned the traditional body on frame construction moving to a full monocoque unibody structure that massively increased chassis rigidity and crash safety. Despite been packed with more safety tech and sound deadening the weight actually dropped over 100kg (220 lbs) compared to the older S140. This made the S150 series significantly nimbler, faster and more fuel efficient.
Legendary Power Train: The S150 Series was blessed with what many consider the absolute golden era of Toyota engine reliability before the dreaded direct injection tech found in many S170 series Crowns that give no end of trouble. The inline six 2.5L (1JZ-GE) were refined to perfection. In the late S150 facelift (1997+), these engines received VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence), giving them a massive bump in low-end torque.
The Final Anniversary Package: The "Anniversary Package" was released as a limited edition commemorative model to celebrate cumulative domestic sales of 4 million units since the Crowns introduction in 1955. As the main special equipment, diamond cut aluminum wheels, wood-grain instrument panel with exclusive logo, genuine leather key case with exclusive logo (not present), xenon headlamp with auto leveling function, cruise control, genuine leather wrapped steering wheel & shift lever equipped as standard.
The final Hardtop: The 10th Generation S150 series Crown was the final version to be offered in a hard top configuration. This results in beautiful clean lines that are lost in future designs. To top it off this version is offered factory in Gracious Silver Toning which is a highly sought after configuration for VIP builders.
